Mestre in the movies

Il raccomandato di ferro (direction by Marcello Baldi), 1959: Movie that shows views of Mestre, Barche Square, Cavalcavia and Marghera. Among the actors there are Mario Riva, Franca Marzi, Aroldo Tieri, Alessandra Panaro, Amedeo Nazzari.

L'altro dio (direction, subject and screen-play by Elio Bartolini), 1975: Movie that, through the story of  a family, describes the difficult transition from a rustic society to the new industrial reality.

Nel cerchio (direction by Gianni Minello), 1977: Movie about the social marginalization of a sardinian immigrant who lives in Venice. In Mestre are shot the scenes of  a dance-club at Carpenedo and of some workmen's strikes.

Al proprio posto (direction by Franco Roselli), 1979: Movie about the discomfort of the youth.

Il sapore del grano (direction by Gianni Da Campo), 1986: The story of a young teacher and of his difficult relationship with one of  his pupils' family. The working-class house the teacher lives in is in the Cep of Campalto.

Roberto Succo (direction by Cedric Kahn), 2001: The serial killer from Mestre Roberto Succo's story. At the beginning some images of Trento St. and of the area of the railway station of Mestre are shown: there Roberto Succo lived and the movie begins.

Mestre is moreover briefly mentioned in Chi lavora è perduto (1963) by Tinto Brass, Yuppi du (1975) by Adriano Celentano.

SHORT FILM Amaramara (direction by Enzo Zamuner, subject and screen-play by Maurizio Fasolo): Psychological thriller, a silent film with a pursuit in the streets of Mestre.

The short films by Piero Bergamo: ll Fiore (1951), Il giro di sole, La pupa (1955), Il volante (1956), Storia di una cambiale.

Moreover since 2003 the Videoteca di Mestre (Centro Culturale Candiani and Circuito Cinema Comunale) organizes the course-contest “Raccontare Mestre”, for long and short movies about the city of Mestre.
